Rory Moronik

Rory Moronik was that guy at house parties always hanging out by the CD player, putting on all sorts of weird American stuff. As long as it had a beat and groove it went on and the party went off.Around 1999 his flatmate got himself a pair of decks and Rory discovered the joys of mixing and began his obsession with vinyl. Starting out on techno, he started rocking out the Manchester bar scene and hustling his way onto the decks of as many house parties and free parties as possible. Moving back to London, Rory Moronik hooked up with the ASNS crew and started putting on secret outdoor parties up and down the country. Around 2005, now located in South London, Rory Moronik helped set up the Lead Pipe Collective, which began organising events in New Cross, Peckham and Deptford.

Lead Pipe ran all sorts of band nights, combining Dancehall, Punk, Reggae, Grime, Techno, Hip Hop, Electro, Ska, Garage Rock and Roll all under one roof. Anything fresh with a raw street attitude found its way onto the decks. Not too long after Lead Pipe began a short-lived night called Rave or Die! Although it only ran for a few nights, some of the finest DJs and Artists from London and beyond performed, including Altern 8, Shut Up and Dance, Ragga Twins, Dead Silence Syndicate, Jerome Hill, Rob Stow, Aaron Spectre, Shitmat, DJ Deadlock + more. Since then, Rory Moronik has played at the Raindance Film Festival, a movie premiere, various charity events and became resident DJ at club nights such as Club Nic and Supine Studios. Around 2010 Rory had got disappointed with the free party scene, not finding much music there that interested him. So at the beginning of 2011 Rory started up the first of the Distant Planet raves with Louise +1, Hughesee and Ben DS.

Inspired by the early raves scene circa 1988-1993 Distant Planet aims to bring the authentic sound of the oldskool rave, never cheesy, never dated, this is oldskool music for the modern dancefloor. Distant Planet is not meant to be a nostalgic night, but that special vibe of all that is missing from a modern party. Early 2012 saw Rory start up a radio show on nu-raveradio.com. Catch him every Sunday from 6-8pm playing a mixture of Hip Hop, Acid House, Oldskool Hardcore, Jungle and whatever else takes his fancy.
